For my money, a visit to Hudson's Hamburgers is a perfect down to earth American experience. This Coeur d'Alene, Idaho eatery only has sixteen seats, so it is common to wait for a place at the counter. The burgers are hand-formed and cooked to perfection as the clientele looks on. Freshly sliced pickles and onions are about the only toppings other than ketchup and a couple unique mustards. Hudson's has focused on hamburgers since 1907. Chips or fries are not offered, but you are more than welcome to chase your burger with a slice of pie. Some of the best things in American are simple and unchanging.
